Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley is expected to miss the next six weeks with fractures in his lower back, a person familiar with the injury confirmed to USA TODAY’s Sam Amick.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the news hadn’t been made public.

Conley suffered the injury on Monday night during a loss to the Charlotte Hornets when he received an inadvertent knee to the back from Hornets forward Frank Kaminsky.

Conley, who signed a five-year, $153 million contract this summer, is averaging a career-high 19.2 points to go along with 5.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds this season for the 11-7 Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies are also without Chandler Parsons (knee), Brandan Wright (ankle) and James Ennis (calf). Rookie point guard Wade Baldwin IV will likely see an uptick in minutes in Conley’s absence.

The Vertical and Grizzlies.com first reported the injury.
